WEDNESDAY JULY 29

All field trips will meet in Parking Lot E of Lourdes College at 8:00am.

Box lunches will be provided at trip site.

Following the field trips, all attendees will be taken to the National Center for Nature Photography at Secor Metropark. Buses will depart from Secor Metropark at approximately 4:45pm and arrive back at Lourdes College no later than 5:15pm.

Please note: The field trips have been modified according to attendance. We encourage you to visit any sites you may be interested in on your own.

Field Trip Sites

Oak Openings Preserve – Toledo Area Metroparks

3,744- acre Metropark preserve in the heart of the Oak Openings Region - prairies, dunes, savannas, and woodlands. Geology, ecological restoration, and rare species discussions. Dress for outdoor hiking.

Kitty Todd Nature Preserve - The Nature Conservancy

772-acre preserve supports all five globally rare plant communities in the Oak Openings Region. Quality black oak savanna, tallgrass prairie, wet prairie, over 590 native plants, and 110 state listed species.

Secor Metropark / Irwin Prairie /BASF / Meilke Road Savanna Wildlife Area

Secor Metropark - tall timber, rolling, sandy hills and wet lowland. Irwin Prairie Preserve - 223 acre twig-rush wet prairie. Mosaic of distinctive plant communities. Many rare animals.

BASF - business property restoration of native habitat. Meilke Road Savanna - Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife savanna restoration.

Other Sites

Lou Campbell Preserve

170-acre sand barrens, oak savanna, sedge meadow, white & black oak woodland, state listed plants and animals.

Maumee State Forest

3,100 acres with muck farm, sedge meadow, oak seedling regeneration project.

Wood County Savannas and Dunes

Bowling Green City Parks’ Wintergarden/St. John’s Nature Preserve & Wood County Park District’s Bradner Preserve & Rudolph Savanna – Remnant Black Swamp woodlands, mesic prairies, wet meadows, dunes, oak savanna, sand barrens, state-listed plants.
